Step 5 — Abutment & Crown Fitting
Once Dr Wong confirms that osseointegration is complete (through a clinical check and imaging), you are ready for the final stage — getting your permanent crown.
The Abutment
The abutment is a small connector piece that attaches to the top of your implant. It sits just above the gum line and provides the anchor for your crown. Placing the abutment is a minor procedure — the gum is gently opened (if it was closed during surgery), the abutment is secured, and the tissue is allowed to heal around it for 1–2 weeks.
3D Scan for Your Crown
Rather than traditional moulds, Vera Dental uses a 3D scan to capture the precise dimensions of your abutment and surrounding teeth. This digital approach produces a highly accurate impression for crown fabrication, with no uncomfortable putty trays.
Crown Material Options
You will choose between two main crown materials:
- PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal) — a durable, cost-effective option suitable for back teeth. Included in Vera Dental's standard implant package.
- Zirconia — a premium, metal-free option with superior aesthetics and natural translucency. Ideal for front teeth or patients who prefer a fully ceramic restoration.

Crown Delivery
Your custom crown is typically ready within 2 to 3 weeks. At your final appointment, Dr Wong fits the crown, checks the bite alignment, and makes any fine adjustments. Once cemented, your new tooth looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.
The finish line
From this point forward, care for your implant the same way you would a natural tooth — brush twice daily, floss, and attend regular dental check-ups. With proper care, a dental implant is designed to last for many years.
