If you have a dental emergency in Singapore, call or WhatsApp a same-day clinic such as Vera Dental in Tanjong Pagar — consultation is $40–$50 with no emergency surcharge, and we set aside time for urgent cases Monday to Saturday. Severe toothache, a knocked-out tooth, facial swelling, or a broken crown: contact us during opening hours and we will do our best to fit you in the same day.
Open Mon–Fri 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM · Sat 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM · Closed Sun & PH. Outside opening hours, send us a WhatsApp message — we will reply and fit you in as soon as we open.
Any dental problem that involves severe pain, swelling, bleeding, or a damaged tooth deserves prompt attention. Here are the situations we see most often — and what you can do while getting to the clinic.
Time matters most here. Hold the tooth by the crown — never the root — and keep it moist in cold milk or saline. A tooth re-implanted within 30–60 minutes has the best chance of being saved, so contact us immediately.
Throbbing pain that keeps you awake or does not respond to painkillers often signals an infected nerve or deep decay. Take paracetamol or ibuprofen as directed on the packet, and avoid very hot, cold, or sweet food until you are seen.
A gum boil or facial swelling usually means an infection that will not resolve on its own. Use a cold compress and do not press or try to burst it. If you also have fever or difficulty swallowing or breathing, go straight to a hospital A&E.
Keep any fragments or the crown itself, rinse your mouth gently with warm water, and avoid chewing on that side. A sharp edge can be covered temporarily with sugar-free chewing gum or dental wax until we repair or re-cement it.
After an extraction or injury, bite firmly on clean gauze or a folded handkerchief for 15–20 minutes without checking. If bleeding continues after repeated pressure — or is heavy — contact us straight away or go to A&E.
Swollen, tender gums around a partially erupted wisdom tooth (pericoronitis) can flare up fast. Rinse with warm salt water and see us the same day — then read our guide on the signs you need wisdom tooth removal.
Some situations need a hospital, not a dental clinic. Go to the nearest A&E immediately if you have fever together with facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling spreading towards the eye or neck, a suspected jaw fracture, or bleeding that will not stop with pressure. For everything else dental, we can usually see you the same day during opening hours.
Emergency visits follow a simple principle: get you out of pain first, then agree on a clear plan. Here is how a typical urgent appointment unfolds at Vera Dental.
Tell us what happened and where it hurts. Our team gives you immediate first-aid guidance over the phone and finds you the earliest available slot — where possible, the same day. Walk-ins during opening hours are also welcome.
The dentist examines the painful area and takes an X-ray — or a 3D scan where needed — to find the exact cause: deep decay, a cracked root, an abscess, or an impacted wisdom tooth. You will know what is going on before anything else happens.
Before any definitive treatment, we settle the pain: local anaesthesia, a sedative dressing, drainage of an abscess, or medication as appropriate. Most patients feel substantially better before they leave the chair.
We explain your options and all fees before treatment begins. Many problems — re-cementing a crown, a simple extraction, starting root canal treatment — can be completed at the same visit. More complex surgery, such as an impacted wisdom tooth, is scheduled promptly once the infection is under control.
An emergency visit is not a sales appointment. If a tooth can be saved, we will tell you. If treatment can safely wait, we will tell you that too. You leave with the pain managed, a written plan, and clear pricing — and the decision about next steps stays with you.
Most dental emergencies fall into a handful of categories. These are the treatments we most often provide — or begin — at an urgent visit.
For severe toothache from an infected nerve, we numb the tooth, remove the inflamed tissue, and place a soothing dressing — the first stage of root canal treatment. The pain relief is usually immediate.
Draining an abscess relieves pressure and pain quickly. Combined with the right medication, it brings the infection under control so definitive treatment can follow safely.
When a tooth is too damaged to save, a simple extraction ($150–$350) under local anaesthesia is often the most direct route out of pain — frequently completed at the same visit.
For infected or impacted wisdom teeth, we calm the flare-up the same day, then plan wisdom tooth surgery in Singapore — the surgical fee is typically claimable via Medisave, so most patients pay $0* cash.
Lost crowns can often be re-cemented on the spot, and chipped teeth restored with bonding. For teeth that need a new restoration, see our dental crowns and bridges page.
Pain, swelling, or movement around a dental implant should be assessed promptly. We examine the implant and surrounding bone — see our guide to dental implant removal for when an implant cannot be saved.
*Fees are deducted from your Medisave account — $0 cash out of pocket for most patients.
An emergency should not come with a surprise bill. Your consultation costs the same as any other day — $40–$50, with no emergency surcharge — and every fee is explained before treatment begins.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Emergency / same-day consultation | $40–$50 | Same as a normal consultation — no surcharge |
| Dental X-ray (OPG) | From $80 | Where needed for diagnosis |
| Simple tooth extraction Fully erupted, no surgery needed |
$150–$350 | Often completed at the same visit |
| Surgical wisdom tooth removal — surgery fee Impacted or partially erupted · depends on complexity · excludes consultation & X-rays |
$1,350–$1,550 MEDISAVE | Typically fully claimable — $0* cash for most patients |

Emergency appointments at Vera Dental are led by Dr. Jamie Wong, the clinic's founder and principal dentist. A graduate of the University of Queensland (BDSc Hons), Dr. Wong brings over a decade of hands-on clinical experience — including extensive surgical and implant dentistry — to every urgent case that walks through the door.
That experience matters most when something has gone wrong: a calm, accurate diagnosis, pain settled quickly, and an honest recommendation about what your tooth actually needs — nothing more.
No — an emergency consultation is $40–$50, exactly the same fee as a normal consultation, with no emergency surcharge. You only pay for the treatment you actually need, and we explain all fees before proceeding.
Yes — walk-ins are welcome during opening hours (Mon–Fri 9:00 AM–6:30 PM, Sat 9:00 AM–6:00 PM). We do recommend calling 8980 0247 or sending a WhatsApp message first — it lets us prepare for your arrival and usually shortens your wait.
In most cases, yes — call or WhatsApp us during opening hours and we will do our best to fit urgent cases into the same day's schedule. The earlier in the day you contact us, the easier it is to find you a slot. We cannot guarantee a specific time, but genuine emergencies are prioritised.
We are closed on Sundays and public holidays. If you have fever with facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or bleeding that will not stop, go to a hospital A&E immediately. Otherwise, WhatsApp us — we will reply when we reopen and arrange the earliest possible appointment.
Hold the tooth by the crown (the white part), never the root. If it is dirty, rinse briefly with milk or saline — do not scrub. Keep it moist in cold milk, saline, or tucked inside your cheek, and get to a dentist as quickly as possible — ideally within 30–60 minutes. Quick action gives the best chance of the tooth being saved.
If the swelling comes with fever, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or is spreading towards your eye or neck, go to a hospital A&E immediately — these can be signs of a serious spreading infection. If the swelling is localised around one tooth or the gum without those symptoms, a same-day dental appointment is usually appropriate.
A simple (non-surgical) extraction is $150–$350. If the problem tooth is an impacted wisdom tooth that needs surgical removal, the surgery fee is $1,350–$1,550 per tooth depending on complexity — this fee is typically deducted from your Medisave account, so most patients pay $0* cash out of pocket. It can be. Pain with swollen gums around a partially erupted wisdom tooth (pericoronitis) can worsen quickly and spread if untreated. We can see you the same day to relieve the pain and manage the infection, then plan wisdom tooth surgery if removal is needed — the surgical fee is typically claimable via Medisave.
Medisave can be used for surgical dental procedures, such as surgical wisdom tooth removal. It cannot be used for consultations, X-rays, fillings, or simple extractions — these are paid by cash, NETS, or card. We will confirm what applies to your case before any treatment starts.
Paracetamol or ibuprofen, taken according to the packet directions, is generally suitable for dental pain if you have no allergies or medical reasons to avoid them. Never place aspirin directly on the gum or tooth — it burns the soft tissue. A cold compress on the outside of the cheek also helps.
We are at 10 Anson Road, International Plaza #02-47, Singapore 079903 — a 3-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT (EW15). From the CBD, Raffles Place, Marina Bay, or Chinatown, we are usually reachable within 10–15 minutes.
It is rarely dangerous, but the exposed tooth can become sensitive and is vulnerable to decay and fracture, so it should be seen within a few days. Keep the crown safe and bring it with you — in many cases we can re-cement it at a same-day visit.
