The Full-Arch Implant Procedure
Whether you choose All-on-4 or All-on-6, the general treatment journey follows a similar path. Here is a brief overview of what to expect.
1. Consultation and 3D Planning
Your dentist will conduct a thorough clinical examination and take a CBCT 3D scan to assess your bone volume, density, and jaw anatomy. This information is used to plan the precise placement of each implant.
2. Implant Placement Surgery
The implants are surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. For All-on-4, the two posterior implants are angled to maximise bone contact. For All-on-6, the implants are distributed more evenly across the arch. The procedure typically takes two to four hours per arch.
3. Immediate Temporary Teeth
In many cases, a temporary fixed prosthesis can be attached to the implants on the same day as surgery. This means you can leave the clinic with functional teeth while the implants integrate with the bone.
4. Healing and Integration
Over three to six months, the implants fuse with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. During this time, you will attend follow-up appointments to monitor healing.
5. Final Prosthesis
Once the implants have fully integrated, your permanent prosthesis is fabricated and fitted. This is custom-designed for a natural appearance and comfortable bite.
