Teeth Whitening Before an Event: A Countdown Checklist

The most common whitening regret we hear is not about the result. It is about timing: whitening the day before the wedding, then spending the big day with sensitive teeth and nervously avoiding the tea at the banquet. A little planning avoids that.

The Countdown

1. Book a checkYour dentist looks at your teeth, gums and any crowns or fillings that will show in photos, and confirms whitening suits you.
2. Sort out anything firstFillings, gum care or a scale and polish come before whitening, so it works on clean, healthy teeth.
3. Start a take-home kitIf you prefer a gradual change, your custom trays are made from a 3D scan and you start wearing them.
4. Same-Day WhiteningOne visit, under 2 hours. This leaves time for your shade to settle and any sensitivity to pass.
5. Protect the resultFor two days after whitening, avoid kopi, teh, dark sauces, curry and red wine, and do not smoke.
6. Nothing newAvoid starting any new dental treatment in the last few days, so there are no surprises.

Have crowns or veneers at the front? Check how they will look after whitening before you book.

Working Back from Common Dates

• Wedding or ROM: book a check about six weeks out. If you have a pre-wedding shoot, plan around the shoot date instead, as it usually comes first.
• Year-end celebrations: December fills up quickly, so book early.
• Chinese New Year (6 February 2027): aim to have finished whitening by late January, before reunion dinners and visiting.
• Job interviews and photos: one to two weeks ahead is usually enough.
